How to propose your girlfriend

Step 1

The first thing to realize, is that most women want to be proposed to in a way that their friends and family haven't been. They want a story to tell. They want (I think) to be so unprepared that they cry... happy cry. So the guy has a lot of pressure on himself knowing all of this. But don't fret or worry, there are ways out there that most people don't think of, that will knock her right of her feet, and should definitely not hurt you get that "yes" you hope for.

Step 2
The first way is the way I proposed to my new wife. I tell her that I'd like to take Christmas photos to send to our family. Without her knowing, I have already contacted a photography studio and set the whole session up with the photographer. We start off with Christmas photos, and the photographer decides to change to a solid background (this is normal so the lady should have no idea). The photographer had us take a few poses with the new background, and had me get on my knee at one point. Now my girlfriend got her hopes up, and the photographer knows this, and has her sit on my knee for a picture to throw her back off. Then she has my girlfriend stand up and the photographer winks at me letting me know that she has a new roll ready and I can go for it. This is where I grab my girlfriend's hand and start giving my quick speech, followed by pulling the ring out of my back pocket. Now mind you, this whole time, the photographer is catching every moment on film including my girlfriend's reactions! Now when someone asks her how I proposed to her, she can not only tell them, but show them step by step!

Step 3
My backup plan was a great one in my head, but took more than I knew how to accomplish. I was going to take her favorite movie (A Walk to Remember) and in the middle of the movie, have the tape edited to go to a screen with me asking her to marry me. This would have been a great idea for anyone terrified of asking in person, and would have also given her something to hold onto forever and show people how I asked her. This would have worked great, but I would have technically had to get the film's permission to edit their film... but I'm sure it would have worked.
